About group therapy

 

Group therapy provides a space to explore reactions and projections to other members, being curious about memories and experiences that arise that may hold emotional beliefs and expectations about others and the world. It explores the methods of protecting the self, negotiating trust and intimacy in relationships with others, and advocating for boundaries and safety in the shared space. It balances both sharing vulnerability and being a source of support for other members. 

 

Group therapy encourages that members be aware of themselves in the moment, including their response to each other and their own evoked memories, beliefs, and emotions, and be willing to share those reactions with honesty within the shared space of group therapy.

About guys group

 

The guys group reflects on themes related to male adolescents. This includes emerging roles in the world, values and morality, and interactions and alignment between ethics and patterns of behaviors. It explores lessons and beliefs from caregivers and experiences with families of origin. It reflects on navigating social, cultural, and relational messages about adolescents and masculinity, including assumptions and stereotypes, expectations, and creation of male identity and emotional curiosity.

 

The unique dynamics of an adolescent male group allow distinct opportunities to process relationships and communication, as well as emotional exploration, connection, and expression. These are likely patterns enacted within the self and others, including informing interactions with the internal and external world. The guys group provides an environment to explore these (and other) factors as they spontaneously arise within the security of therapeutic relationships.
