Frequently Asked Questions

Consultation

Consultation is a free 20 minute opportunity to assess if there is a productive match. During consultation, we will discuss what is leading you to seek out therapy and what your desired outcomes from treatment are. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions about therapy and my methods and philosophy.

Intake

After consultation, we can schedule a time to meet. If you are a virtual client, you will receive an email with a link to your client portal to complete paperwork and forms electronically prior to our first session. You will also be sent a link to access the telehealth video platform.

Length of sessions

Generally, sessions are scheduled for 50 minutes. I have several openings for 80 minute sessions, which may be especially helpful and compatible for couples and families, as well as individuals who may benefit from additional time for deep exploration.

Frequency of sessions

Generally, sessions are held weekly during a consistent time slot. However, at times people may find that they benefit from additional support or less frequent meetings. Frequency of sessions is an important ongoing conversation during therapy to identify and advocate for needs and change.

Fees

Individual therapy rates are $200 per 50-minute session and $320 per 80-minute session.

Couple and family therapy rates are $230 per 50-minute session and $370 per 80-minute session. Group therapy rates are $130 per 80-minute group therapy session. Credit card payment is done through a confidential platform that charges a provided card. I also accept HSA and FSA cards, as well as checks and other payment methods.

Sliding scale rates

I do offer sliding scale rates to increase accessibility to treatment. If you are interested in sliding scale rates please let me know so we can discuss it during our consultation meeting.

Health insurance

At this time, I do not accept health insurance. This allows me to continue to offer sliding scale sessions at discounted rates. However, I am able to provide superbills for requests to be compensated by insurance companies. Please consult with your insurance company for more accurate and comprehensive information.

Location

I offer both in-person and tele-health appointments. My office is located at 3249 Mt. Diablo Court (suite 200) in Lafayette, CA. There is also the option to participate in virtual therapy for those located outside the Bay Area or who prefer tele-health sessions.

Cancellation policy

I ask that you provide 48-hour notice if you are unable to attend a session. If you do not provide notice, you will be charged the entirety of your bill. I understand that the unexpected can happen, so if you provide notice 24 hours prior to your scheduled appointment then you will be charged half of your bill.

Confidentiality

Confidentiality means that your information, including identifying information and what is discussed in therapy, remains private. There are several exceptions to confidentiality, primarily related to concerns about safety of the client or another person. Mandatory exceptions to confidentiality include reporting abuse of a child, elderly person, or vulnerable dependent. A Duty to Protect requires a therapist to warn if a client has made a legitimate threat of violence towards an identified individual.

HIPAA

HIPAA stands for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, which is a federal law that requires the protection of identifying or sensitive patient health information. This ensures that client information is subject to data privacy and security provisions and is not disclosed without consent.

Under law, health care practitioners must provide patients and clients who are not using insurance with an estimate of the anticipated bill for services rendered. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of treatment services provided. For questions or for further information on a Good Faith Estimate, visit cms.gov/nosurprises
