Individual therapy

Individual therapy allows for the intimacy and safety to explore oneself, being guided and witnessed by an engaged and curious therapist. I provide therapeutic services to individuals of various ages.

For youths: please note that some therapeutic services for children are restricted to in-person sessions. Due to constraints of virtual therapy, I have limited tele-health services for young clients. Contact me to discuss potential openings or referrals.

Group therapy

Group therapy provides an environment that can lead to deeper knowledge about the self, including evoked responses and projections between the self and others, interpersonal and relational dynamics, and a unique type of community.

Please note that at this time I am accepting new members for two therapeutic groups. See below for information on open groups. If you would like to register for group therapy or have any questions about group treatment, please contact me.

Therapeutic Modalities

Modalities refers to who is involved in therapeutic sessions. Various treatment modalities provide for different opportunities for therapeutic process and reflection. Contact me for additional information on therapeutic modalities or to discuss what version of therapy may be appropriate for you.

Additionally, please note that two therapy groups are currently open to new members. See below for current openings for therapeutic groups.

Couples therapy

Couples therapy is meant to be a healthy and effective space for couples to build deeper communication, intimacy, and trust. Couples may explore individual and relationship themes, including how one or both personal histories and own experiences may be impacting the relationship, personal and relational values and priorities, and changes or shifts in the individual and relationship over time.

Family therapy

Family therapy is a constructive opportunity for members to explore relationships, dynamics and evolving connections, and communication between family members. It seeks to build understanding and collaboration to address one or more member’s concerns and the interaction and impact on the family system. It may include themes of exploring relational dynamics and connections, building healthy boundaries and productive communication, and bolstering support and positive relationships.

Areas of Clinical Experience and Interest

Please note that all areas of specialties are available in individual, couple, and family therapy. These are also themes available to explore in individual therapy with someone who has a loved one struggling or living with the following concerns or themes. I am available to discuss how different areas may be incorporated into various forms and modalities of treatment.

My primary areas of focus are fatherhood, boys and men (adolescents and adults), co-parenting with separated caregivers, substance use recovery, and emotional exploration and depth work.

Boys and men, masculinity, identity, relationships, fatherhood

While in many important ways humans are similar, boys and men often experience different social and relational messages about masculinity and expectations from them. Therapy explores themes such as identity development, trans-generational and social learning, relationship dynamics, emotional connection, fatherhood, and other areas related to masculinity. It was this interest in boys’ and men’s issues, coupled with a recognition of lack of support for certain groups, that inspired my graduate thesis, creating a caregiver curriculum for teenage fathers.

Adolescents, teenagers, young adults, transitional-age youth

Adolescence can be a time of significant internal and external changes. During this time, individuals are often opening identity development as separate from family and peers, reflecting on values and priorities, and negotiating boundaries. It is also a time of considering emerging roles in the world and exploring the potential of the self as an adult.

Identity development, life transitions, emotional exploration, depth work

Life can present challenges and opportunities for change and growth at various ages and stages of life. I offer therapy that opens exploration into various aspects of the self, including patterns of behaviors and their roots, relationship difficulties, and interactions with the self and external world.

Relationships, parenting and co-parenting, separation and divorce, blended families, non-traditional partnerships

Relationships are often complicated. Added with the stress of life, changes to individuals and the relationship over time, and relational dynamics and communication, individuals and families may sometimes need additional external support. I have worked with individuals and families with themes of intimacy, trust, infidelity, polyamory and non-monogamy, relationship changes over time, parenting and co-parenting (including co-parenting with separated caregivers), and separation and reunion.

Substance use, chemical dependency, recovery

Recovery is an individual path based on unique desired outcomes, and the value and sustainability of recovery comes from building a life of meaning. Therapy involves exploring the utility of using substances to fulfill needs, where various aspects of life (including set-backs and/or relapses) can be contextualized within the process of growth and recovery.

Resistance, oppositional and defiant beliefs and behaviors

Individuals expressing resistance may be neglected, pathologized, or tried to control. Exploring the needs that underlie resistance and the hidden parts that are trying to be protected allows clients to lower defenses and engage in healing ways. Through a strength-based lens, I am able to connect with those who may struggle with feeling connected and appreciated. I invite clients to bring conflict and resistance into the shared space to build safety and explore healthy conflict and communication.

Group Therapy

Group therapy provides an environment that can lead to deeper knowledge about the self. It promotes reflection on evoked responses and projections, including origins and associations of emotions and memories that may arise. It allows for exploration into interpersonal and relational dynamics and a unique type of community of mutual vulnerability, honesty, and support.

Contact me for more information on group therapy and how it may connect with your therapeutic goals.
